Autumn Fragrances

  • Posted by: angeli.krohmal

Autumn always captivates and enchants with its bright colors on the ground and in the sky, surprises with the variety of weather - from hot sunny days to gloomy and dank foggy showers. Autumn has a special charm and that's why fragrances in this period sound in a special way and hide a deep meaning. This selection of niche perfumes will emphasize the richness and spirituality of the autumn season and your refined olfactory taste.

When creating your perfume wardrobe (and it is necessary for today, because there are so many incredible and beautiful perfumes in the world, and the life of modern man has become much more multifaceted and multitasking),it is worth taking into account the change of seasons. This is one of the best guides, as changes in ambient temperature, warmer clothing and more frequent stays in heated rooms change the olfactory background and a person's perception of fragrance.

With the onset of cold weather, one wants warmer, softer and more comfortable clothing, hot food and warming drinks. As we know, odors surround us everywhere and perfume will be a great companion in cold and not always pleasant weather, increasing mood and literally warming.

What perfumes are suitable for the fall season? First of all, let's understand the notes, divided into families and the general scheme of building a fragrance (pyramid, as it is commonly called).

 Perfume laboratory

The pyramid of a fragrance shows us all the notes that make up the composition. It is customary to "read" the pyramid starting from the top and ending at the base - this way we understand how the scent will start, what it will go into in the middle and where it will end. Many factors influence the scent perception of individual notes: we must always remember one inviolable rule - the perception of a fragrance is subjective, regardless of what the perfumer intended to express.

Different aromatic substances have a number of certain properties, depending on which they are used in the construction of the pyramid in one or another key and quantity. One such important property that affects the perception of the aroma of the perfume as a whole is density. What is meant by this? This or that perfume note is a certain molecule of substance (and most often not one),the chemical properties of which determine the density - in the understanding of the smell - the duration of its presence in the perfume. The higher the density, the longer the note will emit the odor. Due to the density, such components are placed at the base of the perfume pyramid, that is, the full disclosure of their odor will be felt closer to the end, a few hours after applying the perfume. However, the echoes of such notes can be felt even earlier, as they are usually characterized by the saturation of sound and sufficient duration.

In the cold temperatures and weather, such compositions sound harmoniously, creating a cocoon of pleasant flair around the wearer and do not create a weighty and suffocating effect, which is possible at high temperatures.

Amber fragrances

There are 2 main types of ambergris used in perfumery - animal and plant origin. Today, such components (especially of animal origin - since it is a product of a rare animal - the sperm whale) are replaced by synthetic molecules. The second type is more like an oriental chord with vanilla, spices and incense. Also similar aromatic effect is given by the seeds of the ambrette plant. Depending on your preferences in the direction you can find quite a lot of different more saturated or lighter perfumes.

Examples to taste: Tom Ford Santal Blush, L'Artisan Parfumeur L'eau D'ambre Extreme, Christian Dior Ambre Nuit.

Woody fragrances

The family of woody fragrances is very wide, these notes can be found in 90% of the perfume pyramid due to their persistence. Depending on one's preferences, one can find perfume sketches of a magical autumn forest, a house made of wood in which a sweet cake is baked, or a wooden vase in which a bouquet of fragrant flowers has been placed.

Examples to taste: Byredo Parfums Gypsy Water, Amouage Interlude, Comme Des Garcons Wonderwood

Leather fragrances

A leather accord in perfumery is a modified woody profile turned to the max. Leather fragrances are quite diverse - from light soft suede, quite suitable for wearing even to the office and ending with combat boots effect, when the fragrance sounds rough and brutal. Such fragrances are most often found in niche perfumery and they should be used carefully, trying to fit into your style. Perfumery is a very independent phenomenon, and you should be able to make friends with such samples.

Examples to taste: Dark Lord by Kilian, Memo leather collection, Gucci Guilty Absolute pour homme.

Powdery fragrances

Powder fragrances do not always respond to our direct associations, although they often have the abstract effect of a cosmetics bag or even a cosmetics store. But also in such compositions there is a purity effect or a dessert effect (crumbly cookies or sugar sprinkles). These are very delicate and often feminine fragrances that have a sense of overall grooming. In such perfumes there may be berries, flowers or fruits, as well as soft woody tones.

Examples to taste: Narciso Rodriguez Poudree, Prada Infusion D'iris, Chanel Misia

Floral fragrances

Yes, flowers for the cold season in perfumes are also suitable. It is necessary to choose more pronounced fragrances and those flowers that, for example, do not bloom in spring or are aquatic. Rose is a universal choice, fragrances with this flower is almost the most in the perfume industry, and the varieties used allow you to choose different compositions for each season. Dense white flowers such as jasmine or tuberose will also sound great. When choosing a floral perfume for fall it is worth paying more attention to the framing of the flower - what other ingredients have been added to the flower. Flowers combine well with woody notes, spices and leather accords.

Examples to taste: Givenchy l'Interdit, Amouage Blossom Love, Penhaligon's The Revenge Of Lady Blanche

Alcoholic fragrances

Do not be frightened by this profile in perfumery - no one will accuse you of a bad habit. Alcoholic fragrances do not smell of alcohol, but reveal the versatility of the notes contained in real alcoholic beverages. Often you can find compositions that are based on whiskey - there you can most often hear a lot of woody notes, sweet spices and some berries. In niche perfumery, wine fragrances have recently become popular - the juiciness of berries (not necessarily only grapes) creates a cozy and slightly dramatic effect. Entire cocktails based on alcoholic notes, different fruits and even flowers are also created. Today this trend can be called one of the most creative.

Examples to taste: Angels' Share by Kilian, Bloody Wood Les Liquides Imaginaires, V Canto Mirabile.

Berry fragrances

Berries in perfumery are good not only in summer. Choose compositions with the effect of overripe berries, dried fruits or mixed with light alcoholic notes. These can be dark berries such as blueberries and blackberries, wine berries such as cherries or goji berries.

Examples to taste: L'Artisan Parfumeur Mure Et Musc, Vilhelm Parfumerie Poets Of Berlin, Giorgio Armani - Si Intense 2021.

Oriental fragrances

This is a separate huge caste of fragrances, in which the most different notes can be combined, but one thing is certain - such combinations sound perfectly in the cold. An abundance of bright spices, especially pepper, saffron, cumin, cinnamon, add spice and fire. Roses and exotic woods also play a special role in oriental fragrances. Rose-ud composition can be called a classic combination, with various accents: from aromatic herbs to exotic fruits.

Examples to taste: Serge Lutens Arabie, The House of Oud Almond Harmony, Amouage Portrayal

Dessert fragrances

On cold days, you often crave for something sweet. And if you are watching your figure, perfumes with a pastry note will be the best choice. All sorts of variations of desserts with fruits and berries, coffee flavors and compositions with a central note of chocolate will lift your mood and will not add sugar to your blood. Often such compositions are built in combination with something inedible - for example, with flowers. And if you do not like too sweet perfumes, we advise you to turn to those that have in their pyramid notes of citrus - they will give balance to the desserts in the bottle.

Examples to taste: Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium, Mancera Choco Violet, Lolita Lempicka Lolitaland

Regardless of the direction you choose, such perfumes for the cold autumn season will perform a function that lifts the mood on cloudy days and emphasize the beauty of the bright autumn season with its colors, rich harvest, warm cashmere coats, wool sweaters and huge scarves.
