As many know, the art of perfumery often draws inspiration from related activities. And sometimes these concepts are very much intertwined. Such was the case with the brand by Kilian - the rich long history of the alcoholic brand took a new direction under the leadership of the heir of the famous family - Kilian Hennessy. How did the premium brand of cognac decide to create perfumes? What is Kilian inspired by? And why is it important for everyone to have at least 1 bottle of by Kilian fragrances?

The mega-popular niche perfume brand by Kilian was founded in 2007 by the grandson of "that Hennessy", Kilian, his namesake. The aristocratic family has long earned the fame of ingenious alcohol producers - the history of the dynasty begins in 1765. In the 80s, under the leadership of Kilian Hennessy Sr. one of the largest fashion and luxury concerns - Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy - was formed. And one would think that each subsequent generation does not need to be engaged in creating something new at all. But Kilian did not think so. To a young man with his enterprising character and refined taste instilled from childhood it seemed wasteful not to realize his personal potential.

He graduated from Sorbonne University with a thesis on the semantics of fragrances. But before deciding on his own personal path in the world of perfumery, Kilian worked for other brands and concerns such as Dior, Armani and Alexander McQueen for some time. Having gained experience and formed his own vision, Kilian decided to take the next step that would bring him resounding success. Already then, almost at the beginning of the new century, the descendant of a noble family was characterized by progressive views - his perfume bottles were among the first to become refillable, marking the beginning of ecological consumption in the perfume industry. Nevertheless, Kilian pursues classical values, as he has been surrounded by the art of the past all his life, and having acquired a global knowledge of the world of perfumery, he decided that it is the fundamental basis laid in the late 19th and early 20th centuries that should be revived in the sound of perfume.

When the brand first began its existence, the concept and fragrances of the first compositions offered were completely different from the popular trends of the time. From the very beginning, Kilian laid the foundations of his vision of what a real perfume should be. But besides the content, the design was also magnificent: in those days, the perfume market never packed its bottles in elegant lacquered wooden boxes with a key and a lock, which could then be used as soon as the soul wished. It was a real stir and an aesthetic shock.

The design of the collections has since changed, but only slightly: Hennessy's signature boxes have become the brand's trademark in addition to the truly chic fragrances. According to Kilian, the scents are a kind of defense against the world around us. That's why on the edge of each box and bottle of his perfume you can see the shield of Achilles - a volumetric detailed embossing. It can also be considered a reference to the founder's education.

One would think that the concept of the fragrances would be clear even without a visit to a brand boutique or corner - but no, the heir to the cognac empire did not act predictably. In the collection by Kilian perfumes on the theme of alcohol did not appear in the first place. There are quite a lot of reasons for that: firstly, the founder of the brand really pursues not an innovative goal (although many of his perfumes sound really authentic),but a classical one - to create perfumes based on the original perfumery rules. Secondly, Kilian himself has quite a rich imagination, which he decided to realize in the variety of his perfume lines (more about them below). And thirdly, he still gave the desired to the admirers of the brand both perfumes and family alcohol, though not at once.

In addition to perfumes, the brand has created a collection of accessories. It all started with high appreciation of the brand's bottle boxes, which are very reminiscent of women's clutches and other similar items. Therefore, in 2010 a line of clutches was released, divided into 2 collections. The design used the signature accents of the perfume house - patent leather and truly magnetic names. 

In keeping with Kilian's vision of the role of perfumery in people's lives, perfume jewelry was also released. The idea is to prolong the life of the chosen fragrance close to the wearer through a special design of jewelry encrusted with perfume microcapsules that will exude the fragrance throughout the year. The love of art and history is clearly reflected in the design: a marvelous blend of Art Deco and ancient Greek motifs captivates the eye.

But the most exciting and enchanting thing about Kilian is the perfume compositions themselves. For more than 15 years several dozens of incredible fragrances have been created, in which Kilian's irrepressible passion for high art, the golden fundamentals of perfume creation, the sensual and dark side of human personality and the splendor of aged alcoholic beverages are intertwined. Outstanding cocktail, isn't it?

Surprisingly, the brand divides its compositions by gender, which is atypical for niche perfumery. Nevertheless, there are no inhibitions about what can be worn - especially by Kilian. Many fragrances and entire collections are dedicated to love, human relationships, passion and secret dark desires. They are created to discover the sensual sides of the soul and body, yours and your partner's, to fantasize and bring these dreams to life, decorating them with incredible fragrances. 

The creator's passion for black is reflected in the debut L'Oeuvre Noire collection, which includes the vast majority of the brand's bestsellers and by Kilian black concept. We sincerely recommend enjoying such fragrances as Straight to Heaven, Liaisons Dangéreuses and Back to Black. In general, we can say that darkness in the concept of the brand is always opposed to light (if not prevailing over it). One of the most popular women's fragrances Good Girl Gone Bad is a perfect proof, where the white bottle contrasts with the provocative name. By the way, the fragrance is really "good" - it is a seductive floral bouquet, the focus of which is rose, tuberose and lily of the valley with osmanthus giving a light flair of tea, apparently, very much loved by the author.

Despite the classic European approach, Kilian is very fond of the oriental direction and has created an entire Arabian Nights collection dedicated to oud. In addition, there is a passion for Asia in the brand, and this fact makes fans of airy and refreshing fragrances very happy. Such masterpieces as Bamboo Harmony by Kilian, with its amazing combination of tea, unusual bamboo note and really niche fig leaf framed by citrus or Imperial Tea by Kilian, very authentically reflecting freshly brewed tea with jasmine will be perfect companions for you in hot weather and not only.

The fashionista's attention was attracted by the My Kind of Love collection in unusual balloon bottles and with very provocative and outrageous titles like "I don't Need a Prince By My Side to be a Princess" "Yes I Was Madly In Love, But That Was Yesterday". Here you can find warm warming already legendary Angels' share by Kilian with its cozy tones of vanilla, oak barrel in which the noble drink was aged, cinnamon for spiciness and caramel. 

For fans of refreshing perfumes (and drinks, of course),a real hit was by Kilian Roses on ice with juniper and lime as a reference to English gin, and - incredibly - cucumber, in a bouquet of fresh roses. This perfume is worth knowing at the very least!  

Despite the fact that Hennessy is a cognac in the first place, the perfume maestro also loves absinthe, to which he dedicated L'Heure Verte. This is a beautiful representative of the woody family of perfumes with vetiver and patchouli, in which the "green fairy" became an accent. Men will appreciate such a masculine sound.

Kilian did not ignore vodka. Outside the collection of liqueurs for quite a long time there is a perfume - hit Vodka on the Rocks by Kilian - a non-trivial reading of a cocktail based on vodka with aldehydes, rhubarb and rose essence, which is simply adored by admirers of super-fresh compositions. In 2023 a new cocktail with a vodka note was released as part of the liquor collection, where a lot of lemon was squeezed and ginger was grated.
