Gorgeous Floral Perfumes: Chapter 2

  • Posted by: angeli.krohmal

As we have already mentioned - we can talk about flowers in perfumery forever. The floral trend is perfect for emphasizing all the best facets of a woman's nature, either delicate, barely perceptible compositions or luxurious, stupefying, fundamental bouquets in a bottle. Let's get to know better what other flowers are loved by perfumers who, as we know, adore working on women's floral perfume scents.

Lilacs

Magnificent-looking flowering shrubs are one of the symbols of spring. Beautiful inflorescences of small flowers like ripe bunches of grapes attract both the eye and the sense of smell. In the world there are about 40 species of different colors - from snow-white to dense purple and almost burgundy. Lilacs can be found almost everywhere in Europe, in the warm mountainous regions of Eurasia, mainly in China. This shrub is very popular in horticulture. It is noteworthy that out of 40 species it was possible to cultivate many times more varieties - about 2000. The fragrance of lilac is quite difficult to confuse with other flowers - in addition to a slight tartness and a delicate creamy feeling, if you inhale the aroma for a long time, you can feel a delicate bitterness due to hydrocyanic acid. Perfumery material lilac is quite difficult to produce and it is done only in France. Most often in the perfume pyramid lilac neighbors with light unsweetened fruits and other flowers, creating a really feminine flair. The delicate purple hue of lilac is often used as the main color of the fragrance and bottle design. Pay attention to Sweet Morphine, Ex Nihilo or Lilac Path, Aerin Lauder - this lilac flower perfume note takes center stage in these compositions.

Tulipe

Surprisingly, the tulip comes from the lily family (thank goodness for botany!). This hardy perennial plant has earned incredible fame, almost on par with roses. The tulip was already known about as early as the 11th century and spread around the world over the next few centuries. Today, there are just under 2,000 varieties grown on the planet - we've all heard of the incredible tulip fields in the Netherlands. During the Renaissance, a real tulip mania broke out there, comparable to the Gold Rush, but less prolonged. The beauty of tulips attracted the attention of perfume manufacturers - but this proved to be somewhat of a disappointment. Unlike many varieties of the flower, the "power" of the plant is not enough for perfume production - it is almost impossible to extract any fragrant substance to create tulip fragrance perfume. Nevertheless, fragrance creators fantasize and create various abstract or more realistic variations of the tulip note. Perhaps the most famous examples on this theme are Byredo La Tulipe and Traversee du Bosphore L'Artisan Parfumeur.

Geranium

This plant can often be found indoors in pots, their bright funny small flowers and corduroy leaves create a special coziness. Geranium flowers have a not too pronounced, but very pleasant smell - it is a little cool, slightly bitter, and refreshing - there is some resemblance to mint and freshly cut grass. The plant itself has a number of beneficial properties for humans, and the smell relieves fatigue and nervous tension. Geranium exists in over 400 species, so it has generally become one of the most popular houseplants. Geranium is rich in essential oils, so it has become one of the favorite notes in perfumery. An interesting fact is that in the perfume industry, when comparing geranium and rose materials, they find a lot of similarities in sound, unlike living plants. Therefore, sometimes when they want to achieve from rose composition more fresh sounding, they add, or even replace it with geranium.

By the way, geranium in perfume for men - a very appropriate note that gives serious fragrances lightness and at the same time perfectly refreshing.

Geranium can be easily found in classic perfumes, such as those by Chanel, Dior and even by Kilian.

Mimosa

This is another springtime fragrant companion. Mimosa is actually a species of a larger botanical family - Acacia. This plant can range in appearance from herbs to thickets of shrubs and even small trees. Mimosa is an infrequent guest in perfume pyramids, but it gives a "fluffy" effect to the composition and the feeling of sunny peaceful days, its aroma is quite fresh and even a little cool - just like the flowering period. Mimosa in perfumes creates a perfect balance with denser notes, such as wood, amber or sweet overtones. It is not often that an entire fragrance is dedicated to it, but they do exist - for example, Prada Mimosa.

Watery notes

Fresh and light fragrances are always popular. At some point, it was the aquatic trend that managed to take the palm of superiority. But, what if we say that the "watery" effect of some compositions is created with the help of flowers? Pay attention to these notes in floral perfume for her if you are looking for aquatics.

Lotus

A standard of Buddhist culture, the lotus is one of the main symbols in the East. The incredibly delicate flower, which is even forbidden to touch due to its sensitivity, represents vital and creative energy. Surprisingly, being an aquatic flower, lotus has a very distinct aroma with hints of wood, sweetness and even cinnamon. Therefore, lotus parfum note can be called aquatic only nominally. However, lotus has a "dark" side - in some countries the distribution of lotus is limited due to the content of narcotic substances in it. Japanese brands love to use this note in perfumery, presenting it to us in many different ways, but other countries are not lagging behind. Shiseido Zen-3 and Dior Addict 2 are some of the most famous and beautiful fresh floral perfumes about this amazing flower.

Magnolia

Yes, magnolia is a terrestrial plant, but it is its extract that sometimes gives perfumes the feeling of fresh, cool and even melted water. Magnolias are believed to have appeared on the planet long before our era. These small trees with thin branches and sometimes shrubs have an incredible variety of blooms. In the wild, magnolias can be found only in very warm latitudes, but this type of plant has become incredibly popular in gardening, botanists have managed to breed such different species that sometimes it is impossible to identify them as the same plant. Magnolia plants like to be used in urban landscapes, utilizing those varieties that are adapted to cooler weather. The live magnolia flower often exudes a fragrance similar to some berries, sometimes plums and even light hints of citrus, so perfumery often creates a mix of magnolia with these notes. But if you combine magnolia with some very light floral perfume, you often get an aquatic perfume profile (think of Bright Crystal Versace, for example - a super hit).

Powdery cosmetic notes

Sometimes we are delighted by how pleasantly our cosmetics, care or decorative, smell and such smells can be so attractive that we would like to have a similar perfume. The industry was able to achieve this and helped with the idea, of course flora perfume.

 Iris fragrances for women

Iris

Iris is the true epitome of elegance. Very many great compositions of the last century have a characteristic sound just because of this note. These flowers have also become very popular in gardening, they decorate flower beds and gardens. The history of irises goes back several millennia, the image of this flower was found on frescoes in the various remains of ancient civilizations. Today, thanks to botanists, we can enjoy more than 300 species. The flower is characterized by a slightly green fragrance with flecks of dry powder. A remarkable fact is that for perfumes, iris root oil is used, which by chemical manipulation can represent both the flower itself and the stem with roots. In the fragrance you can often feel notes of - carrots, and in many different forms, from the haulm to the cooked fruit or even the seeds. One of the most iconic best floral perfumes about iris is Infusion d'Iris by Prada.

Violet

Lovely delicate violets are one of the favorite flowers to keep at home. Their soft, round leaves and small, brightly colored flowers in all possible shades are always pleasing to the eye and do not require too much care. At the moment, more than 600 varieties for every taste are known about. In addition, violets were often used in medicine. This flower is associated with quite a lot of legends in different peoples. In order to represent the violet in perfume, the oil from its leaves is used, the flowers, unfortunately, do not give any extract. In the classic sound, the violet note does have a slightly dry powdery scent with a subtle sweet accent, so it often further accentuates its sweet neighbors in the pyramid, and is also good together with jasmine, rose and citrus. One of the greatest creations on the theme of violet can be considered Guerlain Insolence.
