Classy or Fit? Sporty Chic

  • Posted by: angeli.krohmal

What gives rise to the best visual solutions? That's right, initially incongruous things in the right proportions. Today we will not meet a single style that will be absolutely "purebred". And at the peak of trends there are no such representatives at all - the boundaries are blurred as never before. Today we want to go a little deeper and remind you about the already familiar fashion twist - sport chic.

 Sport chic

It would seem that for us to put on jeans with sneakers (the original sports shoes),or even a pantsuit is already a matter of course. However, the roots of such stylish decisions lie quite deep and not obvious.

Let's consider an approximate chronology of the origin and development of sport chic style.

1920s.

Yes, yes, do not be surprised, now the most paradoxical fact will be revealed: the first step towards comfortable elegance was made by Coco Chanel. After corsets it was time to dress a woman comfortably. Pants became not only men's, and the number of items in one image also decreased. Thus, the development of sportswear accelerated, as comfort was paramount. Of course, special details of the closet, for example, for equestrian sports, then already existed, but it was still a tribute to the sport itself, and not a dedication to a man who follows the health of his body. In general, there is still a long way to go before sneakers with a silk combination dress, but a start has been made.

The 1980s.

Everyone remembers (at least from vintage movies and commercials) that neon craze, right? In those years a healthy lifestyle was actively promoted and people started to do sports. As a consequence - the closet overflowed with tights, tracksuits of all materials and colors, long basketball jerseys and, of course, sneakers. All of this became interspersed with the everyday clothes of the time, although it was almost impossible to find deliberately composed bright sport chic look at that time. Since the cult of personality has always existed, the public looked up to their idols. Thus, the trend for sportswear on city streets was once accidentally set by Princess Diana, going out on business in short tights, sweatshirt and sporty sneakers.

The early 2000s.

A riot of colors and incredible outfits that mixed everything - jeans, sneakers, minis and rhinestones - came from hip-hop and R'n'B culture. At this time, everyone was taking examples from Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas and Britney Spears, combining paradoxical details of clothes, wearing sneakers on wedges and exposing belly buttons. The silhouette mix of glamorous and comfortable is becoming more and more defined.

2015-today.

And for almost 10 years now, putting on ugly shoes and a classic double-breasted maxi length coat no longer seems like something ill-considered. Today chic sporty outfits put the main emphasis precisely on comfort, leaving a preponderance of glamor for formal events. Today, functionality is essential for the lightning-fast pace of life of city dwellers, so innovations in sportswear designs are quickly spreading among everyday looks.

Thus, sport chic women looks constantly non-trivial and fresh, while being extremely easy to adapt. By combining a variety of materials from two different trends, the outfits turn out to be layered, textured and definitely not bland.

Let's go over the defining accents of sport chick style, remind ourselves of the classic formulas of this trend and take note of new fresh ideas.

The classics of the genre - pantsuit and sports shoes. In general, we already know how it works and now you can maximize the variations. Use non-standard fabrics for suits. To play on the contrast, you can wear a three-piece suit with all the necessary accessories, and as shoes choose the most futuristic or ugly sneakers.

Another favorite combination: sneakers and classic outerwear. Trench coats and overcoats seem to add a touch of elegance when accompanied by athletic shoes. Maximum formula: coat, snapback, oversized hoodie, sweatpants, sporty high socks and sneakers.

You can accentuate the main accents in the opposite way: an oversize tracksuit is probably the most comfortable outfit after pajamas, and it can be styled with elegant carelessness, too. Choose for yourself comfortable chelsea boots, take a classic bag - and sporty and chic in its purest form is already on you.

An interesting combination will be a classic shirt as a second layer under a sweatshirt or hoodie. The lower part of such an outfit can be assembled taking into account your wishes on the accent: with loafers and sneakers for sport, or with jeans and classic shoes for chic.

Extravagant sporty chic look: the tandem of tights and sneakers + oversize jacket. In this case, you can not skimp on the size of the jacket: it will play into your hands in cold weather, when you need to add layering, and for a striking contrast in the silhouette, where broad shoulders will rise above thin graceful legs.

A fresh twist in recent seasons has been the use of sports jumpsuits that are fully body-hugging, a reference to Catwoman and spy movies. Their stylization with a trench or coat, cap and ugly shoes balances the degree of sexuality, making such an exit appropriate.

More tips and tricks:

The more you want to emphasize the "chic" side of your outfit, the more neutral color scheme you should use. And vice versa. These are the eternal values and distinctive features of each style: neon shades are acceptable for sports, while the classic genre loves pastel colors and shades of beige. If you want more of an epatage, then set point accents with bright colors - for example, neon socks in a monochrome image will make a reference to the sports outfits of the 80's.

Although the popular fashion for huge brand logos has passed, in case of the sports part of the style it is welcome: mix iconic Nike Air with classic pants and wear versatile Adidas three-stripe pants with a jacket and sneakers.

Don't forget the headwear to be sporty elegant. In addition to baseball caps, you can style just about anything from a simple hat with a large knit to a fedora with wide brim.

It is worth experimenting with outerwear in a chic way - it is much easier to combine a leather biker's jacket with sporty elements than an olympic jacket with something classic (only if you are not a god of streetstyle).

Don't forget about skirts. Depending on the style from which the skirt is chosen, you can focus on the selection of all the other components of the outfit. Both flying chiffon and silk skirts paired with sneakers and denim pencil skirts with vintage sneakers or tennis skirts with hoodies and chelsea will look equally interesting.

Experiment with fabrics: a leather trench coat or denim shirt can add a touch of extravagance to this unusual but beloved sport chic style.
