Partying Like a Rock-star: Grunge Style

  • Posted by: angeli.krohmal

All of us deep down sometimes just do not want to obey the generally accepted rules, want to arrange some rebellion and go against society. Although this behavior is often characteristic of teenagers and very young people, but it also affects the appearance, which in turn, gave rise to certain trends. One of the styles that have emerged in this way is grunge.

 Grunge fashion style

Grunge originated in the 80s of the last century mainly due to music groups. Such musicians were unruly, daring and indifferent to an overly sensitive attitude to life - these habits were adopted by their fans. The standard of grunge aesthetics was Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. At some point in the late 90's, after the passing of the aforementioned musician, the 90s grunge style lost its popularity among the public. Fashion houses and designers were not interested in this trend at all, until the famous fashion designer Marc Jacobs did a study, which resulted in a whole catwalk collection in 1990's grunge style. It should be said that the public, accustomed to haute couture, did not understand the deliberately sloppy images and strange combinations and the collection was subjected to mass criticism. But still, the beginning was made and grunge started to develop all over the world.

Today, followers and those who generally support this style, explain the concept of grunge through the prism of denial of pronounced imposed fashion in general and obedience to its rules in particular. What lies behind such statements? Carelessness, even unkemptness in the whole appearance of the grunge-adherent borders on defiant slovenliness. Lack of desire to consciously and correctly combine elements of the closet gave rise to textured layering. Brutality and boldness, even some aggression, are expressed in the use of hard and dense materials, abundance of leather. Silhouettes with this mood are either baggy or with rigid lines.

As for the color scheme, it is predominantly dark shades, basic colors in contrasting combinations - no cuteness and aristocratic beige in grunge look. A distinctive feature is the love for illustrations and pictures on T-shirts - these can be characters from movies, cartoons, singers and actors; also inscriptions, landscapes or abstractions. Active prints such as plaid, stripes, complex patterns can be seen on shirts, pants, sometimes on cardigans and dresses. Sometimes there are embroideries and patches, for example, on jeans and jackets. In more brutal variants, you can observe iconic studs and rivets in impressive quantities.

It's worth noting that the same trend we mentioned earlier happened with grunge - in this style you can trace echoes of many other styles: from hippie and punk, to rock and even some variations of "saturation" of the whole style (hello, soft-grunge). Today, grunge style can be authentically replicated without pulling old worn-out clothes out of the closet. A lot of brands support the aesthetics, praising boldness, freedom and rejection of rules and periodically release interesting models or entire collections of certain things.

Let's take a look at unconventional and provocative closet pieces for creating grunge outfits female in this reckless, but sincere in their immediate creativity.

Just look at these eye-catching t-shirts. Depending on the weather and the seasons, you can choose from classic t-shirts (oversize and tight) to long-sleeved pieces. An eye-catching and emotionally evocative illustration that describes the wearer as a rebel is important in grunge wear.

Jeans are a central marker of self-expression in grunge aesthetic outfits. The more scuffs, holes, cuts on them, the better. Decorate jeans with chains and aggressive belts, tie on bandanas - jeans are like a canvas for unleashing bold emotions.

Outerwear

It is difficult to imagine a grunge style image without a slouchy jacket. Some followers of the style even customize their jackets, demonstrating some personality traits through symbolism. Leather grunge jacket is not only an indicator of grunge, it has long been a classic, so if you were previously very conservative in the choice of clothes, you can start with such coat.

While the 90s grunge fashion style doesn't suggest any strict gender separation or intentional sexuality, the women's version has no problem with skirts.
